InfraWrap
When and how do I use an infrared light theropy wrap / blanket ?

The frequency of using an infrared light blanket on your horse depends on the individual needs of the horse and the intensity of its activity, but here are some general guidelines:
-
Before Competitions or Training:
-
Use the infrared blanket 30-60 minutes before a show, event, or intense training session. This helps warm up the muscles, increase circulation, and reduce stiffness, ensuring your horse is ready for peak performance.
-
-
After Competitions or Intense Activity:
-
After a competition or intense workout, use the blanket 30-45 minutes to help with recovery. This aids in reducing muscle soreness, inflammation, and speeds up the healing process of strained muscles and joints.
-
This flushes lactic acid from the muscles.
-

What’s lactic acid ?
Lactic acid is a byproduct of anaerobic metabolism, which is when the body produces energy without oxygen. A buildup of lactic acid in a horse's muscles can lead to muscle fatigue and acidosis, which can negatively impact the horse's long-term performance. If left untreated, lactic acid can settle into the spinal cord and sacroiliac, which can have devastating consequences.
Showing PERFORMANCE horses:

After a show, infrared red light therapy is highly effective in promoting healing and regeneration in performance horses. The therapy works by delivering deep, penetrating light that stimulates the mitochondria within cells to produce more ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy source that fuels cellular repair. This process accelerates tissue regeneration, helping to repair muscle fibers, tendons, and ligaments that may have been strained during competition.

Infrared light also improves blood circulation, which aids in the removal of metabolic waste products like lactic acid that can build up after intense exertion. Enhanced circulation ensures that nutrients and oxygen are delivered to damaged tissues more efficiently, speeding up recovery. Additionally, infrared light reduces inflammation and alleviates muscle soreness, which helps minimize stiffness and discomfort after heavy physical activity.
By promoting a faster healing process, reducing inflammation, and improving circulation, infrared red light therapy supports a quicker recovery, allowing your horse to perform at its best in future events with less downtime and risk of injury.

Regular Maintenance (Daily or Weekly):
-
For horses in regular training or performance, 3-4 times a week can be beneficial for maintaining muscle health and flexibility. This helps to prevent injuries and supports ongoing muscle recovery and regeneration.
-
For horses in less intense work or during off-seasons, using the blanket 2-3 times a week can help maintain overall well-being and performance readiness.
-

Always monitor your horse's response to the treatment. If you notice any signs of fatigue or discomfort, adjust the frequency or duration of use accordingly. For specific guidance, it’s also a good idea to consult with your vet or equine therapist.
